First question: Are you using your actual age on the dating site? If so, don't. Most people (even 30 year olds) think that what they want is an under 30 year old. They're wrong of course, but they think that anyway.

Second question: Are you actively trying to make connections or are you just waiting for people to come to you? Because sometimes you just have to take that first step, you know. You can't just wait for someone to fall into your lap.

Yeah, I use my real age. To be honest, I find lying about your age on dating sites kind of icky - like, I'm not interested in a guy to whom that matters. And I wouldn't mind dating older, anyway.

And yes to the second question as well. I was on Match and POF at the same time. Whenever I sent out messages (your basic short, sweet, and showing interest in their profile, as recommended), I would get nothing back. Nothing. It's seriously been a year. It was so frustrating that I had to drop Match. All I got prior to this guy on POF were creepers. Genuine creepers, not just me being judgmental. There was the guy who had "breeder" in his username and went on about how he wanted to find a woman who wanted 10+ kids, or the 20-year-old who wanted pics of my boobs, or the guy who said some event in his life had recently caused him to become boring and he was looking for a fellow boring person. That's the kind of thing I was attracting. I've had friends look over my profile and pics, so I don't get it.

I totally get your point about actively making connections, I was just finding it really hard to actually do that :(

Well I don't know what to tell you. Most 30 year old men aren't looking for 30 year old women because they're ...well, they're assholes and sheep, when it comes down to it.

It's possible you would have more luck trying one of the specialty dating sites like Geek-2-Geek or similar where people might be a little more relaxed about that sort of thing, but on those large, general sites like POF you're more likely to find someone who wants to find a girl willing to be in a threesome than find a relationship.

That's a depressing thought, sigh. What about 40 year old men looking for 30 year old women? I'd be down for that.

In my experience, most people are idiots about this. I get to be privy to all sorts of nasty sentiments a lot of guys have about relationships with women "over 30", and it pretty much extends to 50 year olds (who magically seem to think they'd ever have a shot at 25 year olds).

Unfortunately those are also the types of people who hang out on POF. So yeah, try a specialty dating website and hopefully that will yield a few guys who are more progressive about that kind of thing.

It disturbs me how many of the messages I get on dating sites are from guys 30-50. I'm 24.

Same, though I'm 22 and have set on my profile that I'm interested in guys up to 30.

Doesn't stop people older than that from messaging me. There's one guy (37yo) who keeps messaging me on OKCupid about every 3 or so months...

This honestly just makes me really judge men.

Uh... there's a huge difference between allowing for the possibility that you'll make mistakes (hopefully learning from them on the way) and knowingly, deliberately seeking out bad choices. Only a moron does that.

and the award for most petty deliberate misinterpretation of a post goes to...

So you're saying, some people really don't care all the continuous bad choices they make. Well, that's unfortunate for EVERYONE.
