It's because of the high level of insult and disrespect the people behind the show threw at fans when it premiered and the fact that a beloved show was canned for what was perceived as a vanity project for the production and network. I guess if you weren't heavily into the fandom, you'd never know all of the history behind it nor care. But it was like being slapped in the face repeatedly. To almost literally be told by the producers, "we don't want your kind round here" was so far above and beyond bad karma I don't even know how to classify it. So it does touch a lot of raw nerves. Which evidently, are still raw.

And to top it off, the show sucked. Big time. And the ratings dropped like a rock and the franchise died. Needlessly.

I am aware of the history because of people telling me I'm objectively stupid since the first time I made the mistake of mentioning I'd watched an episode. :D It sucks if the creators were assholes, but that doesn't mean that everyone who enjoys it is wrong. It's not a major fandom of mine (it'd be hard seeing as there isn't a major fandom) so I'm more of an interested observer to the drama but it must be lonely if you want to talk about it, like the OP.

I think if you are a fan you can find places (Gateworld, some FB sites) where you can talk about the show. There are a few (supposedly good) fics out there if you look. (There are some pretty diehard SGU fans but most seem to be European from what I can tell. And their viewership didn't do much to help save the show. )But agreed, they are kind of hard to find. And I don't know many shows that caused the death of a fandom favorite like this one did. History matters in this case.
