8: In general I am against cutesy nicknames. But "Pterry" was well-established when I first started reading alt.fan.pratchett in 1995. So might I respectfully suggest that you stop fuming and get over it? Seriously, he doesn't care, so why should you?

14: Eiri/Shuichi is a totally fucked up relationship... which is why I love it. As a portrait of dangerous abusive codependency, Gravitation has no equal. (This may or may not be intentional -- I sometimes get the feeling Maki Murakami was deliberately parodying yaoi stereotypes. But I may be giving her too much credit.)

19&24: YES ME TOO! Hahahaha. God, I'm such a daydreamer...

21: Are you aware of Sturgeon's Law? 90% of everything is crud. So 90% of manga and anime are crud. This says NOTHING about the inherent merits of the medium, or of the qualities of the remaining 10%. Have you seen Wings of Honneamise? Haibane Renmei? Paprika? Grave of the Fireflies? Only Yesterday? Tokyo Godfathers? Princess Mononoke? Or, for manga, have you read Blade of the Immortal? Lone Wolf and Cub? Eagle? Abandon the Old in Tokyo? Yotsuba&!? Love My Life? If you haven't at least heard of some of these titles, then what you're complaining about is not "manga and anime" -- it's the crappy manga and anime your friends are into. Don't blame the medium for your friends' bad taste.

48: Yeah, me too. Transformers fans are weeeeeird.

*scribbles notes*

Yay! Quality stuff! It's not *that* hard to get out of a desert of mediocrity as long as there are good directions :) Thank you!

You're welcome! If you like Princess Mononoke, you'll probably like Miyazaki's other works, which include (*deep breath*) Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind, Porco Rosso, and The Castle of Cagliostro.

If you like Paprika and/or Tokyo Godfathers, you may also like Satoshi Kon's Millennium Actress and Perfect Blue -- but then again, you may not, since while the animation style is much the same throughout, the genre and subject matter is wildly different. I think Satoshi Kon rocks the world no matter what he does, though.

Ooh, and Simoun is a seriously good sci-fi series with an excellently twisty plot. It's a bit confusing at first because there are a lot of characters and not quite enough exposition, but once you get into the swing of it, it's awesome.

I'm always glad to show people the quality stuff, you know, because seeing the mediocre and cruddy stuff get held up as "what anime can do" annoys the bejesus out of me.

!!!

Thanks again! I've seen all of Miyazaki's works, except for "Cagliostro", and although the storytelling is sometimes hit or miss with me ("Totoro" and "Only Yesterday" being the biggest exceptions), there's no denying that they're all *fascinating* to watch.

I sort of jumped between famous things, which are not necessarily always the cream of the crop, but are almost always entertaining. So I've seen a whole range of what's popular, and though I'm certainly no expert I'm just beginning to *really* value the good stuff; I'm beginning to understand *what* exactly makes these films/shows so good. Dismissing stuff is too easy (and then how would I procrastinate?!)

Thanks again!

14. Nah, I'm pretty sure Murakami was just making shit up as she went / parodying all srs bzniss yaoi mangas. The reason why I liked Gravitation so much had absolutely nothing to do with the relationship between the main characters at all--it was because Maki Murakami has such a sickening sense of humor that is present in all of her works. I have an FFVII doujinshi she drew where Vincent fights a snow rabbit with an icicle of snot dangling from his nose. Absolutely freakin' hilarious. She's so crazy.

21. Freakin' word on Paprika, man. That movie was incredibly brilliant, especially Osanai the characters.

...you wouldn't happen to have a link to that doujin, would you? XD

Haha, I actually bought it at a con about a year ago, and I don't own a scanner. It was so awesome, because I pulled it out and there was a picture of Cloud on the cover with a Pikachu, so my friends and I were making fun of it and then suddenly one of them goes "...wait, Cloud looks like Shuichi" and I just about shat my pants. XD

So, I'm sorry I can't provide the scans, but I can tell you that the fight between Vincent and the snowbunny ended in a giant explosion. Tifa also used Red XIII as a blanket by breaking every bone in his body. So fucked up. XD
