I've seen a few comments about famous people looking like their spouse/boyfriend/girlfriend a few times (Benedict Cumberbatch and his fiancee got it a few times, though I didn't think they looked much alike).

I once went to a funeral for my neighbor's husband. I met a guy who I immediately assumed was the husband's brother. They totally looked alike, right down to having the same style of mustache.

Turns out, he was the wife's brother. She had married a guy who could've been her brother's twin.

Have you encountered this? Do you date people who look like you or like your relatives (or act like you or your relatives...)? Or do you prefer people who are really different from you?

I haven't, personally - think I'm one of those case who specifically doesn't date guys who remind me of my dad. I wouldn't be entirely opposed to someone physically similar to me, but I wouldn't want them to look like my closest relatives.

Oh, god, if someone reminded me of my dad in personality, there is no way I could date them. My dad and I do not always get along, and being in a relationship with someone like that would make me crazy. Like I'd end up wanting to kill myself.

Yeah, exactly. I mean, I love my dad - but to be honest even after seeing them my whole life, I still do not fully "get" my parent's relationship. I love 'em both, but I couldn't wouldn't date someone with either of my parents' personalities.

No, but that's more because I'm just not usually attracted to people who look similar to me than anything else.

Acting wise...meh. Sometimes they have, but I have a pretty large family so avoiding anyone who acted like someone in my family would be pretty hard to avoid.

It makes sense. Your beauty ideals are based on what you are socialized to enjoy. So it makes sense your family would have some effect on that.

If they looked extremely like my relatives, I most likely would not be attracted to them.

I think I possibly could date someone who was a bit like my father personalitywise, but oh my god, I would be running for the hills if I ever realised someone reminded me of my mother when it comes to personality (like I love my mother and all, but we are just about polar opposites)

A while back, I realized that my usual "type" when it came to women could also, loosely, describe my mother.

I'm okay with that.

I don't think I've ever been attracted to anyone who was remotely like my family personality wise, lmao. I love them, but Jesus there are a lot of things about them I would never want to see reflected in a potential partner.

As for the looks thing, I haven't come across it but I feel like it would weird me out.

Considering my last two girlfriends haven't been the same race as me...
