Have you turned into someone that your parents are proud and happy of?

My dad? Yes. My mom? Maybe.

Seems so!

I doubt it. I don't even talk to my mom much anymore.

My mom? Likely yes. She doesn't care what I do so long as I'm healthy and happy.

My dad? I don't think I ever will. Not unless I get a stable paying job. That's not a bad thing in and out itself but I wish it didn't come at the expense of him deriding so many things I love...

Yes

Yup!

Thankfully they don't use me as a comparison to my siblings and realise we're all going through life at our own pace.

No. But my parents are such vile people I'm not even going to attend their funerals. That said, I hope everyday that I am making my ex mother in law proud. She was a wonderful woman. I don't really think she's proud of me, tho. I keep trying. It's worth it.

My parents assure me that I have.

they are awesome and supportive, but I can't believe them. I would have kicked me to the curb years ago.

Yep. My dad says it out right. I think my mom implies it.

Oddly enough...yes. I have no idea how that happened, since I didn't do anything the way they wanted me to.

I think? They say so, but then again they always say so. But they just came back to the US and were telling me that they had bragged about me to their doctor. Weird, but anyway.

I think my parents don't believe that I actually put in effort at anything. They think I need to "grow up," because if I were more mature, I'd try harder and therefore be more successful.

That's what they tell me! IF IT'S A LIE I DON'T WANT TO KNOW

Re: fs

(Anonymous) 2015-04-03 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
I think they want to be proud of me. They're proud that I'm a kind person. They're proud that I did actually manage to leave home and start a life of my own, even if I'm still halfway financially tied to them. I maintain a nice home and my marriage is a stable, happy one.

But I didn't finish college, and I'm rarely employed. I keep making steps forward without actually making any progress-- I take state classes for entrepreneurship under the intention of starting my own business. I ask for help writing an impressive-looking resume to send to employers. But I never take the next logical step down any path.

Idk. I think they expected more of me. My older brother is a wildly successful entrepreneur in the tech field, and my spouse and I are living paycheck to paycheck (supplemented by yearly gifts from my parents). I'm happy with the way things are, but...idk. Maybe I expect more of myself, too. I just don't have the motivation or talent/drive to achieve it.
