You could definitely try volunteering at a local museum or archive for a day or few weeks if you're interested. Preferably get a academic reference or two and then send in your details.

I was surprised that even the biggest museum in the country here does this kind of thing. It's pretty easy to make an appointment to just to chat to someone in a museum, as well, especially if you have a specific technical question.

One time I brought in a fossil I'd found to my local museum to be identified. It was fascinating when they took me behind the scenes to compare it to other fossils on record. The other time I asked for help in how to stage an exhibition for my local community group and was given so much great advice by one of their award-winning curators.

I looked up internships in my area once, but there was a citizenship/permanent residency requirement (I'm an immigrant) for the "main" museum here. I'll ask about other positions in person one day, and also try the rest.

Ah, fossils! My childhood dream was to be a paleontologist. I'm glad to hear you had good experiences with museums!
