Text: Because I’m conflict-averse, I did what you asked an added an incest warning to the fic.

But really?

It’s a canon fucking pairing, you should have known what you were getting into.

I am a barista. I will provide escapism through small talk and dry humour. If I'm not being a moody barista anyway

And I know how run on slippery floors without slipping?

Image: screen cap from Skullgirls

Text: I don’t think Skullgirls is sexist, but I do think the giant heaving breasts and panty shots make the game at least slightly worse. The game’s themes don’t have anything to do with sex, and only a couple of charavters have their sexuality integrated into their characterization. I’d even go so far as to say it cheapens the characters like Parasoul (who seems too dignified for panty-flashing) and Valentine (who’s supposedly asexual.)

BS: I think a lot of the people who really slammed this game overestimated how much sex plays a part in it. Many of the major characters don’t have anything sexual about them all.

We're not saying that Abraham Lincoln was a vampire hunter.

What we're saying is "if he was, the book/movie is how it could've gone down."

Re: Awkward questions thread

honestly, in this type of situation it's better to let her bring it up. when I was doing chemo, it wasn't just the fact that the treatments affected my sex drive that made me not want to have sex. I was exhausted constantly, I was stressed, and I just felt plain unattractive after losing my hair and far too much weight. I felt more like an object to be poked and prodded by doctors than a human being. before I was diagnosed with cancer, I had a very healthy (and possibly overactive) libido but sex was just the last thing on my mind when I was going through chemo. I'm not saying that it's wrong to want to have sex with your girlfriend or that your girlfriend doesn't want to have sex just because I didn't, but there's almost no way to approach this without sounding like an ass.

flatview is fun because you can see the exact moment when somebody who is crazy mad about something weird arrives.

Re: Finding Hotel discounts

[personal profile] shortysc22 2015-04-05 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Do you have a AAA membership? Sometimes there's specific discounts for them. It's not super significant, maybe 10-15%, but that might help you.

Try researching hotels on expedia and then check the inidividual hotel's website, I usually found their websites (for boutique hotels) would be about $10 cheaper on a $90/night.

See if you have credit card rewards points that could be converted or if a family member might be able to help you out on that end (I've gotten free flights and hotel rooms because my mom books them for me using her card)

Mmm, pie (and fish). Thank you!

I'll be back with more insults when it's time for dessert. Be prepared!

Kids don't have to own Barbies or Bratz dolls or anything to internalize that thin=beautiful and desirable. By the time I hit puberty, I hated my body because I was short and dumpy and no matter what I did I'd never have a body like Jessica Rabbit. I didn't own any Barbies growing up, Bratz dolls didn't exist yet, and I didn't exactly want to be thin. I wanted the kind of exaggerated hourglass figure that's not really possible in the real world, even for people who win the genetic lottery, which I definitely didn't. My parents didn't buy me fashion dolls or let me watch tv much or buy me age-inappropriate clothes. It didn't matter. Peer groups and pop culture totally overrode all the carefully constructed body-positivity and anti-consumerist ideals my parents tried to instill in me. And I've been an adult for awhile and still hate my body some days for not being something that's literally not possible. We literally steep in this culture as we grow.

Paul is such a fucking tool. Like, he has like, this one passage about not judging that is totally my jam, especially when I'm the lector at church and I pretend I'm reading specifically to the homophobic assholes in my church, but otherwise I can't stand the dude.

I'd go with 3-5 times, depending on why they bailed. At this point in my life, I've realized if they want to hang out with me, they'll make the effort and I just can't be bothered to care if they don't make the effort to see me.

Yeahhhh, but nooo. That whole first season of TNG is excrement, and that's being nice about it. It definitely improved, but damn, it took a long time. Most shows would kill for a four-year grace period before they had to start performing.

Image: posts about Beth layered over each other

Text: I was the one who submitted the secret a while back about wanting Beth dead so that I’d never have to hear about “Bethyl” and over-inflated nonsense essays about her boring character ever again.

No such fucking luck.

You can’t go anywhere in this fandom without being audience to their irrational, balls-to-the-wall insane theories about Beth surviving a bullet to the head in the zombie apocalypse, and how clearly beth is the future star of the show (SHE CAN BARELY ACT!)

I’ve never seen one group of fans single-handedly ruin a fandom like this

Why aren’t they keeping their promises to stop watching??

fuck them AND their spoons

I knew things were going downhill when they started promoting ERod as a 'featured producer', then had NC do a crossover episode... that wasn't an NC episode, so no one gave two fucks.

I actually think it really just is the corset. Those things can give a person a 15-18 inch waist. And she's naturally small to begin with. Plus the skirt is humongous and can throw off anyone's sense of proportion.

OP

(Anonymous) 2015-04-05 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Oh now I feel silly I didn't find out about that tag, even though I suspect it's not well-known even to authors. Thanks, and thanks to the people upthread too!

(Anonymous) 2015-04-05 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
I wonder how people who get all uptight about TRIGGER WARNINGS function in the real world. It seems like such a 'first world problems' thing to be able to think you can filter the stuff you see. Everyone who reads a story and gets triggered at bad or immoral things that might happen should just live in a bubble and stop trying to interact with the outside world all together.

There are things that squick me, but it's everyones own responsibility to click off the window or scroll past it. Nobody is forcing you to endure it unlike the bad shit that happens everyday off of your computer screen. The world is not going to trigger proof itself for you, you sheltered pieces of shit.

Well, it's not necessarily true that the ancient authors believed their works to be wholly factual, either. Virgil's Aenied, for example, was written from start to (more or less) finish as a fabricated propaganda piece for the Roman Empire. The more you read on it, the more difficult it would be to walk away thinking Virgil really thought he was making a documentary.

My favorite protagonist was Esther. Talk about badass female character in the Bible, IMO.

Least favorite has got to be David, mainly because he stole someone elses wife and let her husband die in battle. That's a dick move on David's part. He's such a git.

In RL I was cosplaying the 10th Doctor, and my husband was Saxon Master. I had someone come up and lecture me for a good 10 minutes on how Classic Who was so much better and he only liked Classic Who and he knew everything about Classic Who. Then he asked who my husband was. "The Master" "I don't know who that is. I'm guessing he's someone from the new stuff?" ".... No, well, this version, but he's been around for a lot of Classic Who." And he just walked away.

AYRT

Agreeing with the fact that nobody should be under pressure to "save" another person. For one thing, it really is a fuck ton of pressure. I've been on both sides by having people think they needed to save me and also thinking I needed to save other people. It doesn't fucking work that way. Getting support from others is great and all, but there is no "saving" someone from mental illness. There's just working on making yourself better.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-05 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
There are people like that. One of my favorite fanfic writers was writing a dark fic and even labeled it as such, and then started getting hate the second it started actually getting dark and gritty.

Even if it wasn't labeled as such, everyone should be free to write their fanfics their own way.
