Can you really call Jesus the protagonist? His story is over by the end of the first book, even if it's added to/retold in the next few books. I think you could make a better case for Paul being the protagonist.

I reckon in the Old Testament, God is the overall protagonist. though there are too many individual episodes. he still fits the bill. Starts the story, has obstacles to overcome, drama ensues, has to destroy the world and make it again...

IDK, I think the Old Testament doesn't really have a single protagonist. It's more like a revolving door cast, God is just the only character who consistently shows up in every installment of the series.

I love everything about this little thread and the comments about protagonists.

Yeah, but I don't want Paul to be the protagonist because he's an asshole.

Yeah, he's the original unlikeable protagonist. When people tell me I'm not following some rule from the New Testament, I just tell them I don't listen to Paul.

Paul is such a fucking tool. Like, he has like, this one passage about not judging that is totally my jam, especially when I'm the lector at church and I pretend I'm reading specifically to the homophobic assholes in my church, but otherwise I can't stand the dude.

My favorite protagonist was Esther. Talk about badass female character in the Bible, IMO.

Least favorite has got to be David, mainly because he stole someone elses wife and let her husband die in battle. That's a dick move on David's part. He's such a git.
