Captain Kirk as an idiot. Fuck no, dude was at the top of his class at Starfleet Academy. Just because he isn't mopey 100% of the time doesn't mean he's brainless. (Although it should be noted that I'm referring to TOS!Kirk. Reboot!Kirk is an idiot.)

Yes, FUCK that characterization of Kirk.

He IS smart.

What's worse is that even in the reboot, he can display more intelligence than Spock too -- such as when he figured out that the London meeting with the heads of Starfleet was a trap and then took down Harrison.

Although reboot Kirk is comparatively an idiot in relation to TOS Kirk. And so much more fucking sexist it's the saddest thing.

Exactly. He wasn't a scientist (like Spock and McCoy) or an engineer (like Scotty) or a linguist/engineer like Uhura - but he was an excellent strategist and he knew how to read and motivate people.

Kirk of TOS, and early movies, is a professional career officer, and he acts like one. Hell, even after his disciplining and reduction to Captain, he is still a professional officer and acts like one. Just in the latter case it is the guy who has chilled out a bit and reassessed his priorities in life like many older guys do.

At no point in the reboot movies does modern Kirk act like a professional officer. A professional frat-bro yes, officer no. Of course in the reboot movies everyone is an ass except Pike and Robau.
