Oh man, I used to be into Cloud/Sephiroth hardcore.

Nowadays, I'm really into Tseng/Rufus though. Cloud just irritates me -- I don't know why.

But still…Cloud and Seph have an interesting and obsessive dynamic. Although I agree with you that it's kind of a fan service pairing.

See, ironically Cloud in the game (ugh what they've done to him in the compilation and KH and everything ever T^T) is SO up my alley. He's got so many issues, his life is fucked up, and he's bravely trying to fight his way through it, and his friends are... not actually very helpful at keeping him together. I actually really like Cloud, and maybe that's why I want him to be happy - and Sephiroth would probably not make that happen, though I admit time-travel AUs are a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine.

At the same time, like you say - there are interesting places to go with the obsessive dynamic, the mind-control and mind links, etc.

I don't think I've really seen enough of Tseng/Rufus in game to have an opinion. The most I remember of Rufus is that when I got to his battle I fucked up the 'switch' button and managed to go into that fight WITH NO MATERIA and had to spend 20 minutes just hitting him with a sword over and over XDDDDDDD
