Would you like a particular breed, or just any dog? I have the impression that with dogs, breeds make way more difference than with cats. Though I'm not a dog person, so I may be wrong.

I'm not too picky, but my husband really wants a corgi, so I imagine that's what we'll probably end up with. It'll probably be better for the cats for us to have a smaller dog, anyway.

That's a common layperson's perspective, but it isn't true in the slightest. The best animal behaviour research out there indicates there is very little aside from physical abilities that actually separates dog breeds.

There are no personality traits attached to specific breeds, so it really only matters whether or not you want a small, medium, or large animal that is more or less likely to need a lot of physical activity.
