I remember that while most of the series at the time had the supernatural lurking in the background, that one had it actively attacking and people being aware of it. In the first book I read in the series, ice monsters started showing up and turning people into more ice monsters, and they practically took over the town before the main characters managed to melt them. At one point, the owner of the local gun shop was fighting them off with a freaking flamethrower.

Also, one of the main characters briefly vanished from existence during a bout of time travel. His ancestor was at a witch-burning, and somehow the witch made a mouse jump into the ancestor's mouth and down his throat so he choked on it.

Different anon -
Spooksville is the series you're thinking about. The character with the four watches is aptly named Watch

Wait, Christopher Pike wrote those things? They feel a lot less mean-spirited than his usual style. Maybe he was restraining himself for the kiddie crowd.

The one book I remember the most is when they where in the house of the witch and stumble across the necklaces. Each necklace was labelled with some kind of virtue or attribute (strength, wisdom, beauty and eternal youth?). The MCs put them on and slowly became stronger, wiser and more beautiful, but it turned out that the necklaces were cursed in a careful-what-you-wish-for scenario. Pretty!girl shined so much that she that she became invisible, sporty!guy wiser by turning into a wise old man who would have eventually died, and abrasive!girl did a Benjamin Button and would have stopped existing. Only the one who actually needed that attribute/help (the sickly guy, he put on strength) didn't suffer.

The four had to make their way out of the mansion to take the necklaces off and before the negative side effects killed them, but couldn't find their way out? Somewhere along the way they also met the daughter of the witch who helped them, I think. That was my favourite book of the series, so I reread it a couple of times.

I remember the scene with the gun shop owner and the flamethrower, but wouldn't have remembered the ice monsters. I remember the most useless things about this series. >:( It's been ages - I read my favourite book while on vacation in 2001, but I'm not sure how many books are in the series. And when I found them there were already quite a few books written, so I can't even narrow my search by year. :/

This reminded me of the Creepypasta about the pirate show. Glad you got your answer! :)
