(Anonymous) 2015-04-05 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)Sometimes people will suddenly start posting about juggernauts after you've been following them for awhile. There's a weird stigma against "breaking" mutual follows, so people are often reluctant to unfollow even if the content of someone's blog takes a turn they don't like. I just unfollow people if they start annoying me, but I follow a lot of people who will get progressively more annoyed with people on their dash but refuse to unfollow them. People are weird.

Still, though, it doesn't seem like it should be so hard to send a message like "hey, nothing personal at all, but I'm really not into [insert pairing], so I'm going to have to unfollow for now!"

(Anonymous) 2015-04-06 12:16 am (UTC)(link)Haha, you would think it would be that simple, but there's a high risk of that causing wank. There are people who'd be like "oh okay, that's cool!" but there are also people who will freak out at you over it, and until it happens you have no real way of knowing.
Usually the most you can say about any unfollowing you do is to make an announcement post saying that your dash was moving too fast and overwhelming you, so you had to unfollow a few people. I've never seen anyone take offense to that. You can say that just to cover your ass; even if you actually only unfollowed one person for annoying the shit out of you, they have no way of knowing that.
It's a delicate ecosystem lol.
