The frustrating thing about that whole thing, for me, is that there's no earthly reason that I can see that Thanksgiving should have been about the settlement of America / Canada to begin with. We had a perfectly fine fall harvest holiday, and then for some reason we had to associate it with this whole fantastical rigamarole about pilgrims and all of that (or whatever you talk about in Canada, I have to admit that I know very little about Canadian Thanksgiving except that it exists).

Thankfully, at least as far as I can see, most people are content to just let it be a day for eating insane amounts of delicious food without trying to make it a celebration of colonialism. And while I'm definitely sympathetic to the point about subjugation, that's what I try to celebrate it as - a day for celebration unrelated to any specific partisan point.
