The quote in question, I think, is this one:

" "It's the choice of a monk, not the choice of an asexual. If he was asexual, there would be no tension in that, no fun in that – it's someone who abstains who's interesting. There's no guarantee that he'll stay that way in the end – maybe he marries Mrs Hudson. I don't know!""

What a weird quote from him. Saying that abstaining from something lessens interest but at the same time leaving word bait by saying ~maybe~ something will happen.

I think he's saying that it's the abstaining that is interesting, as in it's a choice for some reason rather than an in-built default state (as it would be if he was "just" asexual).

If he's asexual then Sherlock is never going to be tempted into a sexual relationship with Irene Adler (it's been heavily implied he was off screen) or John (not going to happen on screen, but has happened in many shippers heads going back to Victorian times.) That's what Moffat means by no tension. If he's ace, he's not interested. If Sherlock is monastic then he can break his vow of chastity.

If that's what he's thinking, that not only misunderstands what being Ace can mean, but it's also a sign of a significant lack of creativity on his part if he thinks removing romantic tension means no interesting tension can be left.

Moffat has shown himself time and time again to be obsessed with romance.

The current Doctor is, as far as we can tell, completly asexual - there's certainly no romance involved in any of his storylines - so I think this may just be another occasion of Moffat not being very good at interviews.
