I don't get labelling wank in general. People should get to label themselves, and there shouldn't be any wank over that. I know nothing of the specifics, but if she says she's bi then she's bi. Otherwise we should wait until she tells us what her sexuality is. People don't get to define for other people what their sexuality is.

I agree with this.

The thing that gives me pause a bit (although like you I'm not directly familiar with the controversy) is that what OP said kind of reads like they want to just call GA bi regardless of what she says. Could be I'm misreading it though.

I got the same feeling as you, that OP wants to claim them as bi.

It's the same kind of argument as "if you're for equality, you're feminist!"

Yeah I think it's this. If i remember correctly, she's never said she's bi, so the wank was "don't call her something she hasn't called herself!"

I didn't hear her having any objection to it either though, so I don't think it's particularly offensive if somebody refers to her that way before she's said she doesn't consider herself that either, since she has had relationships with both men and women...

I sort of agree and sort of don't.

Like if you have a person who says "I date men" and also says "I date women" it would simply be accurate to say they are bi, because that is what the word means, yes?

If they then say "I prefer not to use that label" then I'd definitely stop using it. But it seems pretty straightforward. (I guess the whole pan or just generally queer thing could muck it up...maybe that wasn't the best example...)
