Movie Adaptions

(Anonymous) 2015-04-06 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
For those things that have been adapted to movies, what was missing for you?

Do you think the scenes/characters could've made it in or are they unfilmable? (like Tom Bombadil)

Feel free to add any other negatives/positives about adaptions.

I really wanted to see the Thranduil vs Thorin starving scene from the book.

I want a real House of Healing scene, especially the Faramir/Aragorn scene and the Merry/Pippin/Aragorn scene where Pippin calls Merry "my dear ass" or something like that.

I don't see why these couldn't have been done. I know there's a photo of Aragorn healing Faramir from the LOTR movie so they filmed it. Certainly, with the EEs, there's no reason either scene couldn't have made it into the EEs at least.

I was so sad the Hunger Games movies left out Madge.

What was missing in World War Z?

In Voyage of the Dawn Treader, I wish they could've done more with the End of the World stuff. The imagery in the book is so awesome to me. I really wanted to see something of the underwater kingdom that they described.

I have a tiny kernel of hope that we'll get to see the underworld in Silver Chair. That was the other amazing world in Narnia to me. It probably won't happen but I still hope there will at least be a tiny glimpse of it.

I still kind of can't believe that I haven't gotten around to seeing Voyage of the Dawn Treader yet. It was always my favorite book, and I liked the other two adaptations well enough... just for whatever reason I haven't been bothered to see it.

I'd be curious to see if you like it. It's generally considered to be not very good. I actually liked the additions and some of the changes they did but I think I'm in the minority.

I'm super stoked for The Silver Chair though.

I wish the movie version of VDT hadn't fucked up the plot of the book and changed it so much. The plot of the book was great.

Every adaptation of Animal Farm has had a happy ending. Screw that. You are missing the entire point of the book if you give it a happy ending. It's a fable, dammit. A warning story. It's supposed to have a hopeless ending.

I want a do-over of Deathly Hallows, Part 2 and if they don't get the final duel and the bit about the Elder Wand/Harry's wand right, I'll pitch a fit the likes of which haven't been seen in decades. I want that scene in the headmaster's office, dammit.

I also want Snape to live this time, but that's truly flogging a dead horse—so to speak.
