Silmarillion. Though even though I liked the Hobbit movies, I'd like to see an adaption closer to LOTR in terms of faithfulness. And they'd have to pick out specific stories. But there are some great options for movies in there. I'd love to see the Children of Hurin, Beren and Luthien's story, the Feanorian arc, the War of Wrath, the destruction of Numenor, or the creation of the rings of power as movies.

Also, I'd love to see the other Dune books adapted by the people who did the first two miniseries. God Emperor would make a great movie I feel.

The Merlin Trilogy by Mary Stewart. My favorite version of the Arthurian myths by far. Merlin seems to be my favorite character since the Merlin miniseries is my second favorite version.

You can find "The Hobbit: The Tolkien Edit" if you poke around the internet a bit. Cut the trilogy down into one four-hour movie restricting itself to what's in the books.

I actually liked the Hobbit movies for the most part. I've seen the Tolkien edit. It is pretty good, though I think it should include more of the stuff that wasn't technically in the book but we knew happened (The Dol Goldur stuff was some of my favorite bits of the movie and that it happened was canon even if how it happened in the movie isn't necessarily).

ToRN Tuesday did an episode about how to adapt the Silmarillion to film. It wasn't the best episode (as they never prepare adequately for their episodes) but it might be worth a look.

I think Children of Hurin, Luthien and Beren, and the Fall of Gondolin would work best but I'd be more interested in the War of Wrath and the stuff in Valinor.

I have zero faith any of them would be done well though.

Oh, yes, no faith. The Silm would have to be done by someone who really knows and has immersed themselves in the books. I like Jackson's stuff, but he's not suited to the Silmarillion at all.

I'd be happy with just the Akallabêth.

It would make an awesome movie.

Maybe just a Sauron backstory movie? Because I'd love to see the arc with Celebrimbor as well. And since the movie already mentioned that he was the servant of Morgoth, maybe a movie showing that for the non-book readers.

Really, I'd probably be happy with anything. Even something bad. I'm such a sucker for this world. I want it all.

I am seriously interested in all things Numenor but I have deep reservations about a film based on the Akallabêth because so much of it would have to be made up by the filmmakers.

Seeing how badly PJ and company added new mythology to Tolkien, I think it would probably be really terrible.

I don't think even Tolkien fans could come to a consensus about what should or shouldn't be in the story.

And because so little is known about Numenor is precisely why I'd like to see it turned into a film. In the right hands, it could be a gripping story. I'd trust PJ with directing duties—I love his interpretation of how Middle Earth looks—but I wouldn't want him anywhere near the screenplay. Someone with real writing chops would need to develop that. I can't for the life of me imagine who could do it justice, though.

Yeah, I felt that way about Dol Guldur. I thought there was no way it could be done wrong because almost nothing was known about how Gandalf and the White Council attacked it and what it looked like.

I was so, so disappointed.

But, you're right. IF they had a good writer, then I would be all over seeing more about Numenor. I do think, for the most part, PJ and company have done a good job with visuals and I would love to see what the island looks like. But someone else has to do the actual story.

I'd like to see it as a high-budget cable/HBO series (but with fewer boobs and less graphic violence than GoT - I mean, I like boobs, but it's Tolkien).

That would be awesome. And yes, there would be less boobs. But I think it is violent and dark enough for HBO. There's incest, kinslaying, and torture. I'd say that is as dark as Game of Thrones.

Okay, now I really, really want this.
