I do get the argument you're making. Even if Moffat laughs at the idea of asexuality, if his Sherlock never has sex or shows interest in sex, he could still be a character that could be read as asexual I think.
Unfortunately your reputation precedes you.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-07 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Both the reputation, and also, unfortunately, the segment of this site's userbase which takes any time a named user is criticized for something as license to go after them as aggressively and mindlessly as possible at all turns.

Like, some people here are either incapable of letting things go, or using arguments as an excuse to just be complete assholes to people, even when it's not even remotely justified.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-07 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Nooo, it's making facile and dumb arguments and statements that provide the license to go after someone, named user or not. Make a ridiculous and flawed argument, expect someone to call you out on it, whoever you may be.

To be fair, blitzwing has consistently acted like a sanctimonious asshole here, so the hate they get is kind of justified.

consistently

That's not actually true. My comment behavior here has been inconsistent--in some threads I have been thoughtful, in others, I have unfortunately descended into being patronizing* before.

*to me sanctimonious has moral/religious implications that doesn't jibe with my behavior

You know, you seem to have this ability to recognize that people are calling you out for your shabby behavior. But I strongly doubt you have the ability or desire to stop being a twat and you like the reputation you get.

Prove me wrong. I fucking dare you.

I'm trying nonny, and I'm going to keep trying. Knowing I have one more person watching, holding me accountable, and rooting for my success helps.

Your life must be terribly empty.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-07 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
Huh, every time I've seen you post you've been smug, full of yourself, and an asshole. Never seen this "thoughtful" .

(Anonymous) 2015-04-07 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah but we just had a good (and, I thought, productive) thread yesterday all about that, and I guess my worry is anons using that as a license to just not let up even if they try to change their ways

i mean, maybe i'm crazy, it's not like this is a comm given to weirdo persecution of named users or anything

(Anonymous) 2015-04-07 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
FWIW, and whether or not you believe me, I'm the commenter who said they get stupider every time they post and I wasn't even aware of yesterday's (or I guess day before yesterday, now) delightfulness from them.

I was basing it on all the other times they've been on obnoxious asshole with terrible, illogical arguments that descend into strawman stupidity. I don't care if you're a named user or not, flawed, baseless strawman arguments relying on tenous generalities but trying to pass themselves off as the word of god because the person making them is an arrogant idiot are something I'll call out.

Thanks for pointing it out though, because it explains why they were extra dickish and defensive in this thread and validates my comment more than I even knew at the time I made it.

You can headcanon him as asexual 'til the cows come home. But if the author says "he is not asexual" then he is not canonically asexual.

I've never seen Sherlock so I don't really care about this particular interpretation...just making a point about the author and Word of God

(Anonymous) 2015-04-07 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
50 Shades portrays a perfectly healthy and realistic BDSM relationship, then. Nevermind what actual BDSM practitioners and abuse counselors say. It ain't abusive, and it's definitely how BDSM is done, because the author said so. Also, that part where he has sex with her after she says "no" and then leaves her sobbing isn't rape because the author said it's not.

another anon above replied to this better than I could. James' intent was to portray a healthy relationship (she failed miserably, but the criticism is all about the execution, not the intent).

Word of God also doesn't usually blatantly contradict canon. In 50SoG it does, with the intent being basically impossible to see through all the shit, but with Sherlock is there anything in canon that makes it clear Sherlock is supposed to be ace? I haven't seen the show, but I think if there was, we'd have heard about it.
