maybe it's implied but i do think it's worth saying, given the insane straight-edge attitude this comm seems to default to

Okay, except that:

1) Asserting that drug addiction is not healthy for you and have the potential to kill you is not "insane straight-edge", it's fact.

2) Understanding that saying "drug addiction can kill you" is merely acknowledging the possibility it can do so, it's not claiming there are no other outcomes. Grasping that has nothing to do with one's attitudes about drugs, it's more to do with having decent reading comprehension.
