I haven't been, and I wouldn't right now, but how much is too much of an age gap depends on the ages of the people involved. Four years can be too much if the people involved are 16 and 20. At that point there's too much of a gap in life experience and maturity, I think. Twenty years can be just fine if the people involved are 35 and 55. At that point they're presumably both mature adults with a relatively similar range of life experience.
