Possibly for the best. The show was all about the average human characters, with God there mostly as a plot device to make things interesting. There's storytelling potential in switching it up and exploring the mythology, but you know they wouldn't have had the guts to really dive into it.

Also on that list are Journeyman and the episode of My Own Worst Enemy where Henry accepts that Edward and the company are a part of his life he had to deal with. (I don't know if that gets less good in the last episode or two, because thst was such a natural act break that it's just where it stupid for me.
