This is so not a Disney thing but a general cartoon / animation / anything involving anthropomorphization thing. Doesn't make it any less annoying and bizarre, but yeah.

Without makeup, I'm pretty sure men have bigger eyelashes in general because men are generally more hirsute...

Still like it. I thought those centaur girls/boys were sexy when I was a child, so I have no regrets.

I mean, whatever. Have you looked at any of the period art those shorts were based on? It's basically copying and pasting the sexuality and sensuality already inherent in the depictions of the mythos that have existed since the 16th century.

Fantasia is one of my favorite movies ever because of the GORGEOUSNESS of the animation and because I like music videos, but it...definitely shows its age and a lot of the prejudices thereof. Although I never thought the centaurs looked different in age from each other.

My parents report that I was able to sit through this entire movie and not budge once when I was 3. I've loved it ever since, and still watch it on occasion.

Also it's the only thing I can use to describe how I experience sound->visual synaesthesia and consistently have people 'get it'.

Personally, I love the film, the art and music is gorgeous. And, as someone else pointed out, it does bear noting that it's 70 years old. Things change over time. I'm sorry that it's been poisoned for you, but for me I can appreciate it without worrying about the politics of the day. Can't say I ever noticed much about the centaurs, though; that segment was overly childish to me and I usually skipped it.

The dinosaurs are actually my least favorite. It takes FOREVER and the music is annoying.

I'm also not the biggest fan of the Micky Mouse/wizard one. It's not bad but I can't watch it over and over the way I can the opening.

i used to watch it literally every single day.

sexy fish.
this is weird.

rewatching it as an adult, though, has kind of poisoned it for me. it’s all just so bizarre. everything in the movie is weirdly gendered. the sexy fish? the sexy season fairies? the underaged-looking centaur girls putting on a beauty pageant for their older boyfriend? the whole hippo/croc/ostrich sequence?

at least i can still enjoy the dinosaur part.

*also the black centaurs are zebras and servants to Dionysus and don’t hang out with the other centaurs/no interracial romance here, nosirree

I always thought the fat guy in the Pastoral Symphony segment was Silenus, not Dionysus. He's old, fat, drunk and even rides a donkey. Wikipedia seems to indicate that the character was a conflation of both, but I still think of him more as Silenus.

Yeah, it's definitely more uncomfortable watching it as an adult. The things you mentioned also stood out to me, except I'm pretty sure the sexy fairies are both male and female, and I think the centaurs are meant to be the same age (but just very gender dimorphic in terms of body size). The whole beauty show thing is so weird, though. So so weird.

Oh yeah, and while we're mentioning race, the physical features of the white and black goldfish in that segment are also uncomfortable to the adult eye.
