I shipped them from book 4, MADLY, and scoured the next books for hints of the pairing till they finally became canon and then I was delighted

Pretty much same here, though initially people in fandom had to point out the clues in book four to me. Then I was like "oh, of course!" and the rest is Hogwarts, a History. ;)

When I started reading HP there were only 4 books out, I had to wait I think a year for book 5 lol. So long ago!
