I have a morbid kind of fascination with them. Part of me is really curious about how much it would get to me if I turned into one of their targets. I can be kind of weird with what bothers me and what doesn't.

I had one, years ago. I don't care that much, but what bothers me that sooner or later they DO find a target who is men tall vulnerable to it.

Agreed. As much as I wish folk wouldn't take their bait, it bugs me that it's even there in the first place, not to mention not every person can handle all that negative attention.

You realize that even by bringing them up, you are rewarding them. Attention still, and they didn't even have to do something? Fucking awesome, become the F!S bogeyman=ultimate reward=troll-king-for-life=someone else knows they have to top even that. You aren't just feeding the troll by mentioning the Jaybie triumph, you are encouraging the next gen of troll to go even further and all because you couldn't just shut up and not mention them.

One of the most lovely online spaces I were had the rule of, "feed the trolls till they explode." And you know what? It was one of the nicest places I've ever hung out on, because we didn't feel obligate to ignore the people shitting in the punch bowl. We ridiculed them and bludgeoned them with statistics till they left or were banned.

Sure, we got trolls for years running, but I have NEVER met a space that made trolls disappear just by ignoring them. At least we got the catharsis and joy of mocking them and having Troll Of The Year contests.

It really was. I was raised on "don't feed the troll," and honestly found the Mammoth way much better for me.

So explain how ignoring them will make them go away? It won't. Their "triumph" is in having the power to force other people to go away, and we fight against that by calling them out and standing up for the people they're bullying. (The Jaybie thing wasn't a real "triumph" anyway since she came back.)

Way to shift the blame for bad behavior away from the people actually doing it, though.

Yeah, I generally find trolls in general to be pretty tedious. Even the "funny" ones tend not to impress me. It's like, "do you compare to the guy who declared himself my gay porn muse and was weirdly fascinated with how much cock I apparently sucked? No? Then you ain't funny."

(That or that guy who thought female penguins were whores and was TOTALLY SERIOUS. He apparently hit the horrible event horizon after a while, but he'll always have a nostalgic place in my heart for the penguins thing.)
