Interesting theory, but I disagree, anon. Chuck was the only person whose opinion had ever mattered to Jimmy, he looked up to him and loved him and so very desperately wanted his approval (remember how he had to drag it out of Chuck when he passed the bar). But even when he tried his very best--and was actually good at what he did (the Sandpiper Crossing case was solely his)--Chuck still disapproved. And not just disapproved, Chuck crushed him like he was nothing. He said: "You're Slippin' Jimmy!" So Jimmy gave up, stopped giving a shit, and became Saul.

Now whether he did it out of spite for Chuck and his "sacred law" (knowing the whole Chicago sunroof incident, I am personally inclined to believe this theory lol), or out of a sense of "if my own beloved brother thinks I'm a worthless piece of shit, then I must be a worthless piece of shit", is up for debate (and perhaps we'll get some more insight into this aspect of Jimmy/Saul next season). But the look on his face in that scene--to me-- could be interpreted as regret for what might have been had he chosen the other path.
