biggest issue with dudes who are adamant about being male feminists (this is different from dudes who happen to support gender equality) is that it isn't really their battle to fight, so it comes off as having unsavory motives

I think it's justifiable as long as you confine it to, very specifically, men for whom feminism is a huge part of their identity. Push it beyond that and you have definite problems in that area.

It doesn't really matter. It's based off of my personal experiences and observations, and thus is worthless.

The comment was meant to be comforting to the OP, but in retrospect it was probably inappropriate and would not have had the intended effect.

It doesn't matter if I think it's right or wrong, it's not based on any hard data, so there's no way to argue in good faith that it's correct and true. That doesn't make it wrong but it makes it a conjecture, so there's nowhere to go with it and it accomplishes nothing (in this context).

From the data I have now I believe I am right, but I'm operating from a very limited amount of knowledge (experiences and accounts I have personally observed). I would prefer to undertake actual research on the issue if I was going to speak definitively about it to others (hence my deletion of my poorly-thought-out comment). It appears that there actually is a fair amount on research on things such as marriage and feminism, and male feminists.
