many of them do have a meaning.

I'm pretty sure I realized what a pet peeve was after reading HP1 (or more accurately, having it read to me - I was in 3rd grade and our assistant teacher read it to us; it was awesome) so at first I didn't realize the significance of Peeves' name.

English being not my first language I remember being amazed when I found out what Potter means. And Mason, from Perry Mason books.

22 is a very specific guess. Can I ask how you came up with that? (I'm actually 24.)

I don't know actually if the name "Potter" has any significance in the HP series; I always thought she picked it because it's a relatively common British name. Many of the other names do have meaning though, like Lupin, and the Malfoys, and so forth.

I was trying to remember when I've read the first HP book. I was thinking at school, and I'm 26 now, so I arrived to this age.)

Wow, I didn't think about Malfoys' name. A malicious foe, I guess. No, I don't think Potter means anything. Same with Dursley and Evans. Severus Snape though. :D
