It might help if I knew what show a freakin' purple-pink subway train belonged to.

But to write a character meta or about your headcanons you need to be inspired by the character. Hard to do if it's just a love interest.

Text: Week after week, after I read the episode discussions in forums and on Tumblr, I can’t help but find the fandom’s criticisms about the show’s handling of the female characters really repetitive and unproductive.

I want what most fans want too, that is for the show to allocate adequate screen time so that eaqch character, both female and male, can be the best they can be and grow from their flaws. But just pointing out that the show isn’t doing that and not approaching the matter differently won’t improve one’s experience of the show and the fandom.
There are so many other ways to take a proactive approach to truly enjoy the show. Writing meta about the worldbuilding, making up backstories and headcanons, writing missing scenes fic that give the sidelined characters their due. Those who still want to enjoy the characters can then still do so through fan discussions and fanwork even when the show is annoying them.

B!S: I especially hate the repetitive fans whose responses imply that they won’t be satisfied until the female characters are portrayed as generic flawless queens destined to kick all the boys to the curb. That’s not what these young women want…why can’t you at least try to come up with specific scenarios in which they get what they specifically want!?

This is a rather long secret and most people would like to know the fandom just for context.

All of them?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-13 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
"most people" =/= all

But context is nice if the fandom isn't obvious.

Whatever this is for, I can agree with you that I'm sick of the idea that all representation has to be the characters being flawless queens. I can't relate to that.
were_lemur: Jack Sparrow, sprawled on the ground. (don't worry boys and girls there's enoug)

Just because you would consider something "proactive approach to truly enjoy the show" doesn't mean that same approach would work for someone else. If someone is feeling frustrated by how the show is going, they might not find themselves engaged enough for the other activities.

Honestly? I was on the side of the people you are complaining about. At least as far as Supernatural. I loved the first three seasons. And they had potential for being something better in terms of female character representation. And then instead of getting better, it got worse. Why can't I be frustrated that I know the potential is there and it isn't getting realized? I finally gave up on the show and left, but I feel for the people who stayed. The people who took every little step that seemed like a positive and fed into the hope only to have it not realized.

That being said, I don't want "perfect" female characters either. Give me flawed. Give me "real". Give me interesting.

I see pink trains and I figure you're talking about ToQger, though it's entirely possible I just want to believe it's about ToQger

if it is, all sentai seem to handle female characters fucking abysmally

(Anonymous) 2015-04-14 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
1. YOU MENTIONED TOQGER! YAAAAAAY!!!
2. As much of a dudebro as I am, I really want to see a female red lead. Or just have the lancer be a girl. As it is, the girls are either THE girl or a tomboyish big-guy, never anyone else.
3. I think Akibaranger was actually the best sentai show as far as depictions of women go. And I say that knowing it's the NSFW one full of boob jokes.

I agree with your bonus secret, but not your regular one.

I mean, if someone wants to spend their time trying to improve a shitty show with exponentially more headcannon than the creators put in, more power to them. But some people don't feel like trying to polish a turd. They just wanna say to people "hey, there's a turd here, don't step in it" and get on with their day.
