Also, I wanted to thank everyone for your help yesterday with civilian!Ami's clothing! I made a couple different mock-ups, based on what you said. :)

An anon did mention grunge, and I remember jean-fabric being A Thing, so I tried to incorporate that, but in a nice way? |D Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to find long/loose vests on polyvore. I guess I just don't have the right keywords or something. /)=_=);;

Sorry to kep asking all y'all this, but I really have no frame of reference for either the 90's or Sailor Moon, but I don't want to drag down my friends who invited me to join them. |D

I would go for the first of those, it is closer to Ami and the 90s evolution of her style. You still need to find some checkered flannel though, and maybe a dyed streak in her hair. Everyone had hair streaks in the 90s, no matter how non-grunge they were.

Ami never wore checkered flannel and never had a dyed streak in her hair. Also, grunge was much more popular in American than Japan...

I think you'll want to communicate more with your group as to the aesthetic they're aiming for. Are they trying to replicate the style the characters wear outside of being Sailor Scouts? If that's the case, then you're on the right track, and DON'T bring in flannel/hair streaks, etc, because it's very out of character for Ami.

Or are they just trying to come up with '90s-ish streetwear that vaugely brings to mind Sailor Moon characters? If they're doing that, then you can open up your options some more.

I've been trying; unfortunately the person trying to organize all of this is currently in England. :/ All I know is that it's "gross 90's Sailor Moon", though why "gross", I don't know. I don't think we're trying to go grunge, though, so I'll avoid the flannel/hair streaks.

The Sailor Moon anime is infamous for its horrible 90's civilian fashion. Maybe that's what they're going for by "gross". If that's the case just dress like a frumpy granny crossed with a school girl to get the classic Mercury look LOL. I'm sure if you googled the bad fashion of the show you could get something?

I like your picks except for the floral denims. But perhaps that's just because there weren't a lot of prints in the SM anime?

Pairings I'd make from your items:

Outfit 1:
-Closet Belted Dress
-Maurice white denim jacket
-Rock n Rose choker (love this one, looks just like one Ami wore in the anime)
-Topshop lacy socks
-ANA blue flats (or maybe some yellow flats?)

Outfit 2:
-Charlotte Russe mock turtle
-Chicwish skirt
-Steve Madden Lauren booties
-And then if you can find it, some kind of short red vest (don't seem to be any comparable ones for Ami's on polyvore).

I'll try those; admittedly, those are just the basis, I'm going to be using those as a template to find cheaper versions, lol. Some of the polyvore stuff is way out of my price range, but I'll look at those. :3

V.2 and V.4 are closest to what she would have worn. V.2 is more anime style, V.4 is more manga style.

Check with your group to see if you want to go more anime or more manga, but they look great to me!
