You haven't seen Memento?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-12 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. But honestly, I've seen 5 of Nolan's films and I think that's enough to form an opinion on him. I don't care to waste my time and see more. They're not my cut of tea (and that's putting it mildly).

How do you feel about Kubrick?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-12 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
He's not my favorite director of all time, but I think he's directed some truly fantastic sequences.

I'm very fond of A Clockwork Orange, for example.

With Nolan fans, not having seen any one of his films is proof that you can't REALLY dislike him. unless you've seen all of his films, you can't for sure deny that he's the greatest auteur in the history of Western filmmaking. and that includes, like, his fucking family home movies and shit.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-12 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Arguably the greatest fucking family home movies of all times and shit. You should have seen them, anon.

Man imagine if Stanley Kubrick had made porno

that would have been the most intense shit ever

(Anonymous) 2015-04-12 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Except "Eyes Wide Shut" was utter crap. :(

(Anonymous) 2015-04-12 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Wasn't actually porno

Also, it was too late in his career. I'm talking peak, 70s, Barry Lyndon / The Shining Kubrick here.

Interjecting a "hello, yes please" of agreement here.

I hated Eyes Wide Shit too. They managed to do the impossible, they made an orgy boring.

I'm imagining him having the camera follow each thrust, like the way he filmed Jack striking the door with the ax in 'The Shining.'

DA

To be fair, Memento is all about women-as-victims and buckets of manpain too.
