I don't know about having lost its humor. Polarized, maybe? I've been on the net since like '97 and I think we're just seeing more people on it than ever. More people means more opposing views and everything in between, plus the endless echochambers that weren't there 20 years ago for, well, just about anything.

To add onto this, I think the same offensive jokes still exist, but there's a higher likelihood of someone responding to them with offense. Whether this is good or bad probably depends on how offended you are.

Agreed. On some level the standards for what's funny has changed, and there's a broader spectrum of acceptance level for off-color jokes.
