Except we make up a lot of the personality we invest actors/celebrities with, we don't actually know them as much as we know a friend of a friend.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it, it's a perfectly healthy form of fantasy. But we do pretty much invent them as our own fictional characters, peppered with our impressions from interviews etc.

Oh I agree (this is what I meant by referencing the fact that you can't really know the person). But I do think, although the relationship is more distant than a friend of a friend, it's like that in certain ways. Of course it's true that all we have is a certain image formed in our heads from press publications and things like that, but again, I don't think it's the worst or most absurd thing.
