I can and have enjoyed both (turn based and real time combat). For me it depends on the game. I think back on something like FFX and can't imagine it using real time combat (though I feel like X-2 did a good job of changing things up), but I don't so much mind say...Dragon Age being more real time now. (Though I will be forever bitter that tactics are virtually nonexistent in DAI because I love to strategize and have a better control of my parties actions. Yea, you can still pause and give orders, but it requires a lot of micromanaging in real time that I don't enjoy messing with.)

I probably won't be playing this because I don't have the system for it (I might eventually try a let's play, though that is somewhat unlikely because these games are really fucking long and if I'm not playing I lose patience), but if you love the Xeno series that much it's probably still worth giving a shot? (If you have the system to play on.)

You might grow to like it? (Or at least tolerate it while enjoying other aspects of the game.)

(Xeno secrets always make me miss Xenosaga, but thinking of playing them over is so daughting. While I like the combat, there's just so much of it. And much of it is pretty damn difficult.)

Same here. I love the Xenosaga series to pieces, but thinking about playing through it again and all the grinding... Ugh.

Yea, the grinding and difficulty is the big issue for me. I frequently feel RPG's have too many random battles and remember how damned frustrating some of the longer dungeons were. One of the first bosses in the game took me a good 40 minutes to beat... And that's after I spent almost as long fighting the thing then died. I'm not sure if I screwed up the characters somehow, or if the game is just that hard, lol. Either way I have a lot of fond memories of the insanely long cutscenes, the cast and overtly complicated story, but I just don't know if I have it in me to replay it.

I think the only one I consistently replay is Xenosaga III. I has my favorite special attacks, but everything takes forever. II is just too hard for me. I usually just watch the cutscenes for the first two and then binge afterward. My best friend had to do the same for Xenosaga I since it never came out in her country, haha. She just got the DVD that came with II and got a lot of popcorn.

Maybe that's what I should do, yea. I remember III being easier gameplay wise, but the first two were really damn tough for me and while I love them, I'm not in a hurry to go through them again. They're such a time sink.

Watching the cutscenes might be a decent alternative... I say as I remember that I quite liked the exploration in the games. (Especially the Durandal.)

Sigh...

I loved wandering around the Durandal! I'm actually glad the newer games have so much exploration, although the upcoming one seems like it has the most interactive world so far, judging from the Nintendo Directs. I just don't have time to replay old games unless I finally finish my backlog. I've made really good progress on it, but almost everything that's left is the same kind of timesink (or the FF MMO).

I think we should start a sigh corner here. Sigh.
