Re: Has the internet lost/changed its sense of humor?

(As has been said) I don't think the internet has lost its sense of humor at all, but now that (almost) everyone is using it there's more people to take offense. Also, humor is like everything else, in that as you age it will most likely evolve; you might not find the things you found hilarious at 15 hilarious at 25.

AYRT - You know, I wonder if people misunderstood me a bit. I don't necessarily mean lost sense of humor as in "everyone takes offense!" (although that's part of it), but just in general. Like... no one seems to do as many parodies, filks appear to be a lost art in fandom (which isn't humor per se, but requires a certain level of fun), that sort of thing.

Although good point re: the age thing.

Ah, I def misunderstood you then. At least partially.

I still see parodies on occasion. Not sure if there are as many as there used to be, but now that you mention it...I don't think they're quite as numerous. (Either that or I miss them.)

Are filks basically fandom based songs? If that's what you're referring to then pretty much what I said above; I still see them, but they are somewhat rare. I wish more people did them because some of them are pretty rad.

IMO the humor has taken a different shape now. In most fandoms you can find humorous fanart or comics, or silly memes or posts, but it's also fairly easy to overlook. Most people aren't writing up amusing recaps of tv episodes anymore, they're doing smaller, more off-the cuff stuff.

I think AMVs replaced filks for the most part.

You need at least some skills to make a filk, regardless of quality, but the skills involved in AMV-making are required to make a good one. It's entirely possible (and common) to make a terrible AMV without any skill at all.
