That said, our system could be considered a tiny society built from scratch, and I like how we run pretty well!
Basically, the root of our system governance is that no major decisions can be made without unanimous agreement. Any one of us, at any time, can basically filibuster us into paralysis, but we're small enough and have enough invested in each other to not want that to happen. (And if one of us DOES attempt such a thing, that means it's uber-important.)
We then each claim jurisdiction, again with other system members' agreement. For instance, Mac covers cooking and job interviews; I cover money and inescapable stress; Gigi handles emergencies involving acute danger, and so on. So if we disagree on something, one way to accelerate consensus is for someone to call jurisdiction. (For example, if we get into a fight over how our budget should work, I can claim jurisdiction and therefore authority on the subject.)
Minor things, though, anyone can take care of. (What do we have for lunch today, what shirt do we wear, etc.)
It usually works pretty smoothly, and I feel like it's taught us more how to communicate with each other and cooperate, rather than compete for our resources. And we aren't constantly sabotaging or attacking each other, which is what we used to do BEFORE coming up with this system.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-12 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)Take that down to 2/3s agreement or simple majority though and that might be a workable system [with certain modifications to incorporate a larger group] and that might actually work.
[And yeah, I realize that you're just talking about yourself - I just thought it was an interesting idea.]
Re: Society
It also helps that we only have one vessel's worth of resources to allocate. So it's a much simpler process than running a freakin' city. (Though bigger systems have their own ways of running.)

Re: Society
(Anonymous) 2015-04-12 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)How complex?
How technologically advanced?
Where is it located?
What is the climate like?
What natural resources do we have available?
What are our neighboring societies like?
Are they willing to trade with us?
What's the population makeup like?
