Actor/Actress Accents

(Anonymous) 2015-04-12 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you ever heard an actor/actress you thought emulated an accent so well you thought they were a native, only to find out they were not?

Have you ever heard an actor/actress speak in a 'horrible, fake' accent, only to find out it was real?

I like Andrew Lincoln's southern accent, except when he says Carl.

The only time Simon Baker's Aussie accent has ever come through is when his voice is really low.

I can hear it all the time. He's not bad at other accents, but I can still hear it.

I remember a lot of people complaining about Vanille's (Final Fantasy XIII) horrible Aussie accent and how fake it was, when in fact her VA was from Melbourne.

As a contrast, Fang from the same game also had an Aussie accent. Her VA was American however and nobody (that I saw at least) complained about hers.

I always forget Idris Elba is British. He does a fantastic American accent.

I don't know if it sounds fake but Charlie Hunnam has got a really weird fucking accent.

Naomi Watts. Was very shocked to learn she wasn't from either the US or Canada.

I thought Heath Ledger was quite good at accents. I very rarely watch interviews, so the few times I heard him speak in his native Aussie accent, It was odd.

Jamie Bamber in Battlestar Galatica. The guy is British but has a FLAWLESS American accent. I just about fell out of my seat the first time I heard him speak off set.

I refuse to believe Sofia Vergara's accent is real. It's not real. There's no way. I don't care what she says. Maybe she doesn't even realize how horribly distorted her accent has become.

*looks it up* I've heard a lot of Italians with really weird accents in English, so I can buy it. Have you heard a Valentino Rossi interview?

I definitely thought David Anders was British, and then after I learned he wasn't I later forgot again. And unsurprisingly, not having heard of any of his other stuff in high school, I didn't know Hugh Laurie wasn't American for a good while.

John Barrowman's accent is a weird one. I find it jarringly strong in a way most Midwestern accents aren't--and my grandparents are from the Midwest.

It's kind of like an extreme form of a USA accent. But it's the accent he uses as himself and almost all the time.
