I think scheduling medical checks is a bit extreme. If they're cutting down on meat and eating extra vegetables, they'll be getting more vitamins than they did before, not less. Eating lots of meat is unhealthier than only eating a little.

Vitamins, yes, protein no. Acetylcholine(sp?) for instance, which is basically what makes every cell in your body function, able to fight off infections, and basically have the energy to do stuff. B12 supplements help, but they can't replace it entirely. Yes, low-protein diets are healthier below (iirc) age 65, reduced risk of diabetes, heart disease, etc., but if you already eat a low-protein diet as it is (e.g. small portions of meat when you do eat meat), and you reduce that even further? You're gonna have a bad time.
