There's also that episode where a couch crushes Squidward's toe. And that one where Spongebob drives Miss Puff to such paranoia that she's locked in a padded room, and she starts hallucinating that the walls are made of sponge and covered with laughing Spongebob faces. And the episode where Squidward time-travels to an endless white void, and finally finds himself alone ("Alone." "Alone." "Alone . . .")

Yeah, this show was always pretty fucked up.

Seasons 1-3 were fucked up, but in a good way that made you question yourself and certain things.

Past season 3, it just went way too into the Ren and Stimpy knockoff gross out humor and mean spirited.

Yes, agreed. First 3 seasons were weird, but good weird. They were funny and smart. Later the show became really twisted and annoying at times.
