Forgive me, FandomSecrets, for I have sinned. Many (many) years ago, I decided I hated her. Yes it was because she married David Duchovny. I refused to see any show or movie she was in and convinced myself she was an untalented hack.

Now that I've been watching this show, though, I kind of think she's awesome. I let the worst internal mysogyny negatively affect my opinion of her. I am really ashamed.

I should watch more of this show tbh

She seemed really good in it from the couple episodes I watched

It's good. I mean, it took a few episodes to find itself (normal, imo) and the conspiracy plot is/was meh and the politics are often silly (and sometimes pretty in point), but the actors and characters and relationship stuff are great.

Thanks for the rec. I'll definitely put it back on the list.

That hair...

Tragic.

I used to have such a crush on her. I possibly still do, but I can't be bothered to watch the show.

It's funny though how we let crushes on males dictate how we view/perceive the main female in their lives. As a kid a I was crushing hard on Jordan Knight but what in the world could he have seen in Debbie Gibson (if Tiger Beat was to be believed)? Then I kinda realized that it's not the female I should be angry with but the guy himself...aside from the whole I'll never meet him/them.

I don't watch this, but I remember catching some show she was on from the 90s in reruns...she was a journalist? And there was Holland Taylor? And Stepanek from Down Periscope I feel was there? And the last episode had them all, like, drifting in a hot air balloon to their inevitable death while they sang Sloop John B? Someone help me out I didn't do drugs in college, I swear.

But, yeah, totally changed my feelings on her from my previous hatred of her marrying DD, too. I know what you're saying.

OH, It was The Naked Truth and it wasn't Stepanek, it was Spots and I have seen Down Periscope too many god damned times, okay?

Oh, and this is the recap for the last episode, so you don't think I imagined it:
"Up, Up, And Away"

rc:

The show opens at night, with everyone sitting in a hot air balloon. Nora dictates into a tape recorder that they are lost and no longer with food or water. She sets about explaining how they got there. We dissolve back in time and find Jake and Nora in bed together -- having the worst sex either has ever had. After talking it over, they try again -- with no improvement. Debating about trying a third time, they're called to work at this ungodly hour by their beepers. At work, Camilla explains that Barbra Streisand is getting married today in Malibu. It's the tabloid story of the year. Unable to get there by any other means, they decide to infiltrate by hot air balloon. Suji's boyfriend, Leo (from "Neighbor of Bath") operates one. The balloon strays horribly off course. Not only are they not going to get their story -- it looks like they might die as well. Scared and depressed, they confront their fate -- discussing their regrets in life and their fear of what lies ahead. Nora admits that her biggest disappointment is not what she did or didn't do in life, but being robbed of her future. Jake paints a picture of Nora as an old woman reflecting on a beach in Maine, realizing that her "life was good and one worth living." Moved, Nora thanks him and suggests the previous night might have gone better if they'd done this first. Bradley insists they not take their fate lying down. He suggests they sing. And they do -- badly harmonizing on "The Sloop John B." "Let me go home. I want to go home. This is the worst trip I've ever been on..."

I love that you mentioned Down Periscope AND The Naked Truth!

The Naked Truth was insane, as I recall.

I have to hide that movie in our DVD collection. It's shameful. But I love it. So much.

I had the exact opposite reaction, and thought she must be pretty cool if David Duchovny married her.

Then I saw 'Deep Impact' and I was like, "...oh no, DD. :("

she always came across so chill to me that i couldn't help but like her. iirc, she handled the whole "everyone would rather my husband ditched me to hook up with his co-star" business with nothing but grace and good humor, while duchovny... kinda didn't.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-13 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
And how funny that it turns out her husband really WAS hooking up with everyone and their mom.

I could never stand her, she was in some sitcom that I'd hate watch, along with Helen Hunt in Mad about You. Dunno why, they were blonde ferret-faced actresses I loved to hate. It's possible age has mellowed us both.
