So I was reading a list of awkward FB breakups (though I think a lot of the ones there are probably fake or without context), and I was wondering: what are some awkward feuds - breakups, family, whatever - things you've seen on social media?

Being vague or changing details (not that we'd know you did the latter) is understandable.

My libertarian uncle who posts comments on every family member's remotely political blog. We've all mostly blocked him at this point, but sometimes he still manages to comment on something. It is always super awkward and uncomfortable. He just likes to post a counterpoint, in his words, but of course he never actually discusses things or listens to anyone else.

A friend of mine disowned her mother. It was... so, so horrible to read. This is basically how it played out:

Mother: I can't respect your criminal husband or that you don't work!

Daughter: You just hate that I got a tattoo! And you're one to talk about bad husbands!

And it went on like that until the daughter finally said she never wanted to see her mother ever again. By the time they were done, I kind of thought they deserved each other, though.

I defriended the daughter soon after.

My relatives aren't hardcore conservative, but they don't keep up with the news or fact-check anything, ever so they're easily swayed by dumb graphics that go around FB posted by hardcore conservatives. It's an exercise in futility, I know.

nothing that they even said in that post is unfair or implies that they posted stupid things because they're conservatives

i mean, i'm with you on the the broader point that you're making, but it's nonsensical in this context

Eh, you could argue that the fact they felt the need to point out it was specifically conservatives is implying that.

Admittedly, I've just gotten to the point that, if someone says something like the OP said, I just automatically assume they're doing the "DUMB CONSERVATIVES" routine because...well. 99.9% of the time that's what's happening.

I had to send a former classmate to banned camp because he got into a huge argument with some scientist friends over evolution. They gave him these detailed answers and he was like lol nah u dont know what ur talking about. They showed their credentials and he was like that doesnt matter, evolution is only a theory, stop changing the meaning of words!!1 etc. etc. etc.

That's not why I banned him though. I eventually sent him packing because I asked him to please stop arguing on my Facebook about it and he refused, so I sent him off to play a few rounds of Angbanned.

Some guy I went to school with proposed to his gf in a very public place and it got lots of attention on fb. I don't even have him added and I knew about it, and everyone was like "I give it a week" and they broke up within a few days.

I feel bad for the guy, even though I can only ever remember him being a dick.

Made a status update and came back to 60 comments between 2 friends and a 3rd friend of one of the friends. Blocked the 3rd because CRAZY and told the other two I'm not taking sides. Deleted the status (some innocuous about my day post. Can't even remember but one took offence at the others comment and whoo boy. )
