We already don't pay EMTs, cops, firefighters very much, though. How much money would you want to work every day at a job where you're up to your elbows in blood, gore and shit and dying people, or risking getting shot, or running into a burning building?

Yep, and then when you reach old age, your city starts pissing and moaning that your pension is bankrupting them.

Is "we" American States? Don't your dudes get a hazard pay or higher pay for high risk positions? Like in my cleaner job I got hazard pay cause of all the chemicals and cleaning toilets and in my fire fighting role I get paid extra cause it's dangerous and I had just assumed that'd be similar elsewhere?
(And I know our states cops get paid a decent amount once they make sergeant and up. A bit jealous of that)
