Re: Vision question

Sometimes it's like my eyes aren't working together to focus on things. I can see fine out of either, but if both are open, sometimes it's like I'm seeing things that should be on the left in the center or the right and vice versa. Like, I'll be driving down the street and the cars in the opposite lane will suddenly look like they're coming head on. Or, today I was at a drive-thru and the drive out, for a second kind of disappeared and the grassy parts to each side looked like a solid strip. Now, I know none of this is true, which is why I've never wrecked my car, but it's weird. And if I close either eye, it's 100 percent better (except obviously it cuts the field of vision).

Or sometimes I'm reading (book or screen) and it seems like I really have to focus and like one eye (it can be either) ends up doing most of the heavy lifting.

I'm very near-sighted and often will read without my glasses. It's usually after doing so that this happens, but sometimes it's if I'm tired or it's a really sunny day:

It's confusing, and there's a part of me that doesn't want to mention it because it sounds like the sort of thing they'd take a driver's license away for. And I don't know what I'd do in my shitty town if I couldn't drive. I'm also a little afraid to find out it's actually something serious, which is dumb, I know, because if it is I'm wasting time that could be vital, but losing my sight is like at or near the top of the scariest things I can imagine happening to me.

See an optometrist to make sure this isn't an impacted optic nerve. Otherwise, this is likely neurological in nature, and could be quite serious.

I mean it OP, don't you dare think about not having this checked out.

Wow. That's... really weird.

I mean, just based on what you've described, and I am NOT a doctor... it almost sounds like it could be some crossing over of feedback between left and right hemispheres?

I will say this: Your life is more important than your driver's license. Don't delay getting it checked out. Sounds like it could be neurological.

If you're afraid it's something serious... well, if it IS something serious, it's far far better to catch something when it's easy to fix, rather than when it's too late to do much.

*hugs* I totally understand.

Some of what you describe might be from the acuity on one eye taking a nosedive while the other remains about the same.

(I am also very nearsighted and this happened to me; until I got new glasses I pretty much had to close one eye whenever I was at the computer.)

My mother has this problem, but she had a pituitary gland tumor that stretched out her optical nerves. I think you should definitely get it looked at.
