Re: OP
(Anonymous) 2015-04-15 12:21 am (UTC)(link)Okay. I'm coming at this from a Transformers fandom point of view, just so you know. Obviously this reflects my own biases and those of the people around me, as well.
That particular character, it's probably not his voice that makes original!OP attracted to him, for the simple reason that he gets literally one line of dialogue in the whole series. For some of them, though, the voice definitely helps. (A particularly unpleasant voice can also do the inverse, same as with humans - there's some episodes of a different Transformers series I can't even stand to watch because one of the characters is voiced by a particularly inhuman-sounding text-to-speech machine and it's too grating to listen to.)
For a lot of them, it's the personality - if you (general you) happen to be into people with gruff exteriors and lots of internal turmoil, there's some of them, or if you like people who are just irrepressibly cheerful no matter what's going on around them, or really pretty much any personality type. Fictional robots are just as diverse as fictional humans. A lot of people find them humanoid enough to basically ignore that they're robots. Well-written characters will almost always feel human.
Finally, some people just have a fetish for something about robots. I'm one of them, sort of - I have a thing for airplanes. Obviously I am not going to find a real boyfriend who is an airplane.
Re: OP
Okay, that and he's the biggest badass in the show and I love that he's never lost once despite - because - he looks and acts unassumingly :D
