I actually enjoy robot stories specifically BECAUSE they're not human, personally. It allows a writer to write totally different ideas of gender and sexuality that aren't oriented around reproduction.

Robot porn where it's just robodicks is completely boring to me, because if I wanted that, I could just look at human porn. But I'm always fascinated to learn about nonhuman characters and how that impacts how they experience the world and the people around them.

Also, you know. It might be less dick-oriented, which is something that annoys me in ANY kind of porn.

DA

The spark-sex idea in TF fandom does interest me in that regard, though it can trip into the bad end of soulbond tropes as well. I usually steer clear of humanesque 'spike & valve' stuff because it just doesn't interest me (and because I can't remember a good one off-hand). The manually-stimulated electrical overload (ie orgasm) idea can also be interesting - it's usually the most machine-seeming (spark-sex is often more spiritual, while spike-&-valve is biological-at-one-remove).

... I wonder if anyone ever did any meta on fandom ideas of robot sex in the Transformer fandom. I think I'd be interested in reading that.

Miranda: Dunmurderin on LJ did a post on it a while back, and I FOUND IT! :) I'm so pleased, because I remember it being quite good.

Rogan: I admit, I enjoy robot stories of any flavor because I can empathize more easily with them. Like members of a multiple system, they were created artificially, usually for a specific purpose, and are often considered subhuman (or at least NOT human) in the societies around them. So sometimes the more "fantastic" parts of those stories actually ring more true to my experience, even if I can't turn myself into a car.
