(Anonymous) 2015-04-15 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)I HEARD SOMEONE SAY THEY WEREN'T WATCHING NXT
I am usually very against fannish proselytizing, but in all seriousness, NXT is SO GOOD. It's an hour a week! Skip the boring middle third of Raw and check it out! Tight and satisfying stories, young dynamic wrestlers, A GOOD GM (Regal as the fair, even-handed GM who really tries to run his place well is so great), amazing women's matches, the best vanity heel in the business right now, the two purest babyfaces in the business right now (Bayley and Sami Zayn), excellent commentating...
I'm sorry, I do hate when people pounce others and babble about how they should be watching the "right" thing, but...*waves hands, makes incoherent burbling noises* I should be watching it right now but I promised my partner I wouldn't until they got home and so I'm in pain! :)

(Anonymous) 2015-04-16 01:26 am (UTC)(link)It's Wednesday nights, 8 EST! Tonight is Sami Zayn's first match in two months, since his best friend Kevin Owens nearly killed him *heartbroken sobbing* so it might be a good place to jump on board.
Beyond Tumblr's crazy-quilt jumble (I'm missmithen there and I welcome new friends, though my blog is a mess of Tolkien/DC Comics/wrestling these days) I find one of the better places to talk about wrestling is at fail-fandomanon.dreamwidth.org! I don't participate in the larger meme much at all, but most posts have a dedicated wrestling thread and there are 3-10 people (hard to tell exactly!) who participate. It's generally really positive and wank-free, which is very nice. Oh, and if you're interested in the fic side at all, http://extremedeadline.dreamwidth.org/ has just closed nominations and will be doing sign-ups for an exchange soon. :)

OMG that sounds so dramatic! I love friend break-ups because they are so sad. Even though I knew it was going to happen, when I finally watched the Raw ep where the Shield broke up I was so sad. I think I shed a tear or two. (you could see Dean Ambrose's heart breaking on screen...)
Why did Kevin try to kill Sami?
I'm going to watch tonight's ep, but if you have time to (and want to) give me run down of the major drama, that'd be awesome. I'll probably wiki it, but it's fun to hear from a fan about what's been happening.
I'm totally interested in fic and I will def follow you on tumblr! Thanks for the fail fandom link! I've never visited that comm, but I will check it out.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-16 02:26 am (UTC)(link)That Shield breakup is so well done! They time everything perfectly and Roman and Dean's reactions just...oh God.
OK, other NXT-loving folks are very welcome to chime in as I burble about what I love most on NXT! Starting with the perfection of Sami Zayn!
Sami Zayn has been described as "a perfect babyface"--he's a Syrian-Canadian redhead and utterly adorable. He used to wrestle in the indies as a masked luchador named El Generico [note: kayfabe he insists this is untrue and they are two different people, which is also adorable]. Generico's tag partner was Kevin Steen, and they were a great combo--until Kevin turned on him and destroyed him, prompting a long and excellent feud. Fast forward a little ways and Sami Zayn is doing great in NXT. Steen gets signed up and changes his name to Kevin Owens, and they assert that Kevin is his very best friend (because Generico is a different guy, right?) The night Owens debuts is the night Zayn wins the belt, and there's a lot of tearful hugging and forehead-kissing between them--and then Owens turns on him, smashes him to the ground, declares he's going to take the belt away from him. (Fandom calls Kevin the "Canadian murder bear," he's a big cuddly-looking cute guy who does a GREAT schtick as a cold-eyed killing machine.) He then basically manipulates Sami into a match and proceeds to demolish him, attacking him way after he should stop, destroying him and taking the belt. He has the belt now and is just systematically destroying anyone who tries to take it from him (though he's rehabbing from knee surgery at the moment). Sami is gunning to take it back at last.
Oh no, this is going to be too long. Look also for Finn Balor, mild-mannered Irish guy who sometimes dresses up as a demon from hell and is unstoppable when he does (so why doesn't he? There seems to a be a reason, but we don't know why yet); Sasha Banks, the women's champion and coolest Mean Girl in the room; Tyler Breeze, the most perfect vanity heel ever; Hideo Itami, hotshot from Japan with a stiff style and a wicked sense of humor; Bayley (in the secret above) who's like Sami a wonderful babyface--charming and huggy and inspiring. Oh, and Enzo Amore/Colin Cassady and the Vaudevillains, who are the two best tag teams for reasons WAY too complicated to go into, but trust me, you'll love them. :)

I actually remember Enzo from one time when I watched one of Blue Pants' matches. He has amazing hair.
