Re: Hobbit Movies and/or Tolkien books

I'd take Tauriel out. To replace her as a female role, I'd include Bard's wife. If they want a romance, she could be Bard's love interest and not yet wife during the time of the movies (though I do love the Bardlings, so I'd be happy if she was already his wife). I would make her strong and capable but not a warrior.

I would put Bard back to being a guardsman. I would show him as a capable leader already, someone who already showed ambition and the ability to be a king.

I would make time be the antagonist for the movies (they have to reach Erebor before Durin's day), rather than Azog or Bolg. Or, I would keep Bolg but play up the fact that Dain or Thorin killed his dad so it's personal (but I wouldn't necessarily have him hunting the group the entire time). I would have them go back to speaking common tongue (the way the orcs in LOTR did) and be played by actors and not CGI.

I would make Elrond like he is in the book: awesome and nice.

I would tone down all the racism. There is some inherent racism in the books but it is ridiculous how much of a crutch PJ uses it as. And I would make Thorin more xenophobic to everyone who is not a dwarf, Bilbo included. Gandalf would make clear right away that he's not going to go all the way to the mountain with this group (instead of that weird thing at the gates of Mirkwood).

I would take out Alfrid and play up the Master's role. He would be shrewd and calculating: a real politician and not a bloated mess.

I would make Legolas more innocent than he was in LOTR. He was a little cool towards Gimli in FOTR but I never got the sort of antagonism and dickishness he was showing in the Hobbit movies. His role would be a cameo only. Any over-the-top stunts you want to include, you can give them to Thranduil. (Any maybe Bilbo can watch a father-son moment between the two while he's hanging around the Elves' home. I need a hug, okay.)

Thranduil is not a dick. I would show him as a wise, calculating king but also kind to Bard. I would show the scene where Thorin and company exasperate him into locking them up but otherwise, he would be the only truly calm voice in the room. And he would listen to and respect Gandalf.

I would do something worthwhile with Dol Guldur. There would be no Nazgul (so their appearance in LOTR is a surprise). I would include Celeborn, Haldir, Glorfindel, and more of the White Council. Saurman would take a more active role in banishing Sauron (showing he was a good guy so his turn is more unexpected in LOTR). Elrond would be a healer and not a fighter. Galadriel would fight with a sword (since she does in the Silmarillion) and none of that crappy wraith shit they keep doing to her.

I would absolutely have Kili and Fili die defending Thorin. I would have more Beorn. I would change the battle so that it was actually elves, dwarves, and men fighting alongside each other and not segmented out in Dale. I would give the battle stakes and not abandon it to follow Thorin's side-quest like the main battle didn't matter.

I would completely remove the dwarf-chase sequence in the mountain with Smaug. I would have Smaug attack them from outside the mountain like in the book because that was a really cool part for me.

I would remove the gold-sickness as a mental illness analogy and turn it back to being simple greed like in the book.

I would include Dori carrying Bilbo (because I need that in my life). I would turn the goblin-town into more tunnels than an open space. I would give Bilbo more screentime to show his character growth each movie (he didn't really move anywhere after the first movie).

I'm sure there's more but those are some of the basics.
