Is there a problem with laughing at something offensive? I mean, it's not making you behave more offensively to other people, right?

Such an evil webcomic, having fun with national stereotypes!

(Anonymous) 2015-04-16 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
One of these days, can we stop self-flagellating and just be okay with the fact that some stuff we like is both entertaining and problematic? No?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-16 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Not until Tumblr goes into the Abyss.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-17 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously. People have to stop worrying about what some aggressive SJW idiots on tumblr say and like what they want, warts and all.

And then what happens when they're the next Sodomquake, Plebcomics, Lemonteaflower, or Purplekecleon?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-16 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Chill, OP. People will find flaws in even SJ sanctioned canons. No canon is "good enough." Enjoy what you want, as just because you read something and enjoyed it, doesn't mean you sympathize or share those views.

And fuck anyone who says otherwise.

I've only seen one Hetalia movie. I don't think it's that offensive, so much as really weird.

And as someone who's largely lived in the "Allied" part of the world, it's interesting seeing an "Axis" p.o.v.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-17 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That's because Hetalia isn't offensive.

The non-PCness of the comic doesn't bother me much because my expectations are so low for it.

At least you can still read the meta though. I gave the anon meme a quick look awhile back, and it was nice to see that it hasn't really changed much (hell, there were even ancient part one oldbies), but that was as about as far as I was willing to go afaik as the fandom is concerned. All I have is mostly "why." feelings about it. In a fond sense.

Oh noes, you like something that's "problematic"! Surely you'll explode on the spot!

Imo if you enjoy a piece of media and aknowledge that it has it's ups and downs, then I don't see why you should feel guilty for liking it. The point of being in a fandom is that you get to socialize with people and have fun.

Also, is it really "problematic"? Because I find that tumblr says that a lot of things are problematic and turn it into a completely evil thing while self-flagelating and probably praying their souls away in the tumblr basement.

Text: I got into this freaking webcomic before I really started thinking critically, and for a while it was my main fandom. Eventually I moved on to other stuff, but still retained a fondness for him.

Well, now I know that the subject matter really isn’t okay, and I’ve tried to stop liking it, but the fondness won’t go away? I still giggle at funny met and fanworks, when I think of Hetalia, the first thing I think of are the fun times I had in fandom. I’ve never really had this problem before, and it’s weird.

tl;dr Anon is still hetalia trash and has failed her whole social awareness family
