I'm pretty sure being pitched out a thirty-somethingth storey window should count. He survives because his prototype engages at the last minute, but that 1) had to hurt and 2) was probably fucking terrifying.

He pretty much put himself in that situation though? Like, that was the best possible outcome, what did he think was going to happen there?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-16 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
...And?

He was a mouthy asshole. He was thrown out of a window for being a mouthy asshole. Consequences for being an asshole are by definition something the person facing them has provoked through deliberate action.

So it's Tonys fault loki tried to kill him?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-16 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it's Loki's fault that Loki is a muderous fuckbag. It'd be Steve's fault if Steve took a swing at Tony in that scene, too.

It would still be responses he provoked by being an asshole, however. Thus, consequences.

Uh. I'd hesitate to categorize that particular decision as an example of assholery, unless you mean it in the sense of being an asshole to those you love by being reckless with your life.

He made a tactically idiotic decision, got in a bad spot, but still came out on top while making the villain look like an idiotic. Hardly getting his comeuppance there, more like yet another eye-roll worthy Tony Stark moment in a film already full of them.

He was thrown out the window by a villain for opposing the villain. It wasn't intended to be a consequence for Tony's behavior, and it was clearly an inappropriate reaction on Loki's part besides, not a righteous moment. You're not supposed to think "haha, Tony so deserved that!" You're supposed to think that Loki is a mewling prick with an easily bruised ego, and that Tony is so smart and brave.

I don't want Tony to suffer bodily harm because of his behavior. That's not narratively fulfilling.

Um, he came out of that situation totally unharmed and looking cool on top of it.

Do you know what a consequence is?
