School transcripts and university paperwork

(Anonymous) 2015-04-17 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
So I'm going back to school in the fall to finish my bachelor's degree. I sent in my paperwork last month, and I have until May 1 to get everything in. And I'm panicking. Since a lot of the required documentation is more than a decade old, it couldn't be sent electronically; I had to order copies to be sent by mail. And according to the university website, they haven't gotten any of it. At what point is it acceptable to call the admissions office and freak out and offer proof that I sent eveything in? I'm thinking I'll call on Monday. Or is that a bad idea? The only thing I haven't sent yet is the non-refundable few hundred dollar registration/confirmation fee, because I don't want to throw away the money if I'm not gonna get in because my paperwork vanished en route.
Thoughts? Advice?

I'd say call ASAP, yes.

You sent in the paperwork last month? Call them ASAP.

CALL! If you're under a deadline it's NEVER too early to confirm/express that you've already sent things in.

I'm under a similar situation where I requested a transcript for something LAST OCTOBER but ever since the place updated their website, everything I've supposedly completed wasn't showing so I called and bugged them. They THEN decided to tell me, "Oh... we never have a record of that class. Can you contact [School]?

I'm am particularly anal though and everything I send in I keep copies of, so I dug out the original email and forwarded it to the school all, "Look I sent this in in October to [Person] as she requested and [Licensing College] is saying they never received a transcript."

It's been a total big fuck up, but I'm glad I checked up on everything now when I have to be done with all these requirements by the end of June. :/

Call them, be polite and calm.

Since a lot of the required documentation is more than a decade old, it couldn't be sent electronically; I had to order copies to be sent by mail.

As far as I know, all transcripts that are being sent in for college acceptance or professional jobs have to be sealed and physically mailed. Most places won't take electronic unofficial transcripts. That might be changing now, but if so it's a recent thing.

It's a great idea to call and check. Be polite, of course! But if you have questions or concerns about your paperwork, that's one of the jobs admissions offices do. I promise, you will be neither the first nor last person to call and confirm receipt of your paperwork. :)

Adding to the chorus of 'call them!' You don't even need to be freaking - just calmly explain your situation and ask what your options are. University admin is notiously shoddy as well - it's possible they've got your paperwork and just haven't updated the website. So it's perfectly acceptable to call and check. And don't let them being grumpy deter you - I've had friends who've called their prospective university everyday to check on their application. This is a huge decision you're making and a lot of $$$$$ you're intending to give this institution, so you shouldn't feel even an ounce of hesitation about ringing them to check everything has gone through okay.
